Every place has a story

Every civilization leaves a mark

LEARN HISTORY WHERE IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED

Place-based history lessons and travel guides for homeschool families.

Most curricula teach history as a timeline. We don't. We start with a place.

Imagine standing inside Hagia Sophia, looking up at a dome that has seen fifteen centuries of history. Or walking the narrow streets of Fez as the call to prayer echoes across rooftops. Or crouching in the New Mexico desert where human footprints survived longer than memory itself.

That's where we begin.

Forgotten Fragments is built on the idea that every place holds evidence of how people lived, what they believed, and what they built. When students learn history through places, they stop memorizing dates and start asking questions. Why was this city built here? What did these people believe was worth building? What remains?

Our unit studies, place guides, printables, and book lists are designed to help your student move through those questions

Blog

Why history matters. How civilizations take shape. The stories behind the places we still talk about today. This is a space to think out loud about what history is, why it matters, and what students really gain from learning it this way. Each post also takes a closer look at one site, one civilization, or one turning point and why it mattered.

Student Guides

Each guide starts with a place. From there, students move through the geography that shaped it, the beliefs that drove it, and the civilization it became. Unit studies for deep investigation. Place guides for a focused look at one site or moment.

Book Lists

Books, articles, and videos curated around each place and civilization. Every level, from early readers to adults.

Hagia Sophia: Witness to Empires — A Guided History Study
$15.00

This study invites students to explore Hagia Sophia, a building that has stood through many centuries of change. First built by the Byzantines, later shaped by the Ottomans, and reinterpreted again in the modern era, it carries the marks of each time in its history. Its dome, mosaics, calligraphy, and stonework all help tell the story of the people, empires, and beliefs that met within its walls.

As they work through the study, students will look at how Hagia Sophia was built, how its decoration changed over time, and how its purpose shifted as power changed hands. Through reading, analysis, and reflection, they will consider what it means for one sacred place to hold such a layered history.

Designed for independent learners ages 12–15. Perfect for homeschool families, co-ops, hybrid programs, Islamic schools, and curious learners.
